About
Led by Poole College faculty, grounded in NC State's land-grant mission to serve students and communities across North Carolina.
Everyday financial decisions can be complex, and reliable, unbiased guidance isn’t always easy to find. From student loans and credit to employer benefits and retirement, the NC State Financial Literacy Initiative was created to help, with all research-based programming and guidance developed by Poole College faculty.
Our Mission
To improve the financial literacy and resilience of NC State students and North Carolina’s citizens through impartial education, rigorous research and partnerships that convert insights into measurable outcomes.
Our Approach
The Financial Literacy Initiative partners with employers and community organizations statewide to deliver value across three areas of impact:
- Research: Collaborative studies to investigate what works — with findings published and fed directly back into programming and content.
- Education: For-credit courses, workshops, and programs for NC State students and adult learners across North Carolina.
- Thought Leadership: Impartial, research-informed articles and resources on the financial topics that matter most.
Made Possible Through Partnership
The Financial Literacy Initiative is supported by donors and partners who share our commitment to improving financial well-being across North Carolina. Early support from organizations like The Institute of Consumer Money Management and Wolfpack Women in Philanthropy has helped make this work possible.
Strategically Aligned
The Financial Literacy Initiative is a direct expression of institutional priorities for NC State University and the Pool College of Management.
Poole 2030
The Financial Literacy Initiative advances the Poole College Strategic Framework 2030 by expanding educational reach to all North Carolina citizens, translating faculty expertise and thought leadership into positive societal impact, and building innovative cross-sector partnerships that extend the college’s influence beyond campus.
Wolfpack 2030
The Financial Literacy Initiative supports NC State’s Wolfpack 2030 strategic plan by advancing lifelong learning and credentialing beyond traditional degrees, extending the land-grant service mission into new disciplines and communities, and driving multi-sector partnerships focused on applied problem-solving for North Carolinians.
